Twentieth-Century History

Students study and reflect on major 20th century events, such as total war, the rise and fall of communism, the collapse of the European empires, the changing place of women in western society and the decline of traditional religious belief.

Entry requirements

At least a 2.1 Honours degree in history or a related discipline. All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, qualifications accepted include GCSE English; A-level English language; IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component); TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: listening and writing 21, reading 22, speaking 23.

Course modules

Modules include: History and theory; sources and methods for historical research; flashpoints and watersheds in 20th century history 1; historical practice; feasibility study; flashpoints and watersheds in 20th century history 2; dissertation.
