Social Research

The programme provides students with a solid grounding in taught research methods; students develop a methodology appropriate to the project and develop a research topic of their own interest; they benefit from regular supervision sessions.

Entry requirements

A 1st or upper 2nd Class degree plus a Master's degree, or equivalent, preferably in the social sciences; IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component); TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: listening and writing 21, reading 22, speaking 23.

Course modules

Core module: introduction to research; plus 1 optional module from: advanced qualitative methods; advanced quantitative methods; criminological and socio-legal inquiry.

Assessment methods

In addition to the modules, there is a research dissertation (150 credits).
