Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering

This programme suits those considering a career in medical physics in a clinical setting (e.g. hospital); it uses expertise in the university and nearby hospitals to deliver its modules; these modules are also available to practitioners as continuing professional development (CPD).

Entry requirements

The MSc programmes require applicants to have completed a degree in a physical science (or closely related subject); relevant industrial experience can be an alternative, subject to references; the MRes programme requires applicants to have completed a degree in a physical or engineering science (or closely related subject); international qualifications are evaluated in line with the National Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines; all applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, and are required to provide evidence of this; IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each component); TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: listening and writing 21, Reading � 22, Speaking 23; international baccalaureate standard level 5; Hong Kong use of English AS level C INDIA Standard XII 70% or above from Central and Metro State Boards; WAEC C4-6.

Core modules: Quantitative research methods 1; quantitative research methods 2; qualitative research methods; critical literature review; research dissertation; optional modules: perinatal medicine; evidence-based child health; community child health; child neurology, neurosurgery and neurodisability; advanced immunology; health and society; management of health systems; mental health and behavioural science; social and cultural aspects of mental health; the impact of research and genetics on mental health; neurosciences and psychopharmacology; advanced practice in palliative care; advanced practice in end of life care; head and neck oncology; rhinology and facial plastic surgery; otology and neurotology; paediatric otolaryngology; breast disease.
