The programme leads to a professional qualification offered to students with an appropriate 1st degree in architecture or a closely related subject; RIBA Part 2 is awarded with the degree to those students who already have RIBA Part 1; students then become eligible to prepare for the RIBA Part 3 professional practice examination; the course extends and intensify the student's knowledge and understanding of architecture and the built environment; the course has a number of main components: Design projects; lecture and workshop courses; a dissertation; and an optional student foreign exchange programme; the 1st year introduces students to a rigorous approach to the development of design and the background knowledge necessary for its pursuit in a professional way; design projects are used to explore the real issues, problems and opportunities of creating new urban environments; in the 2nd year students explore specific individual interests with the objective of developing their personal direction at the outset of their careers.
A 2.1 Honours degree, or better, in an appropriate field of study. Candidates who do not meet these requirements will be considered on their individual merits. All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, qualifications accepted include GCSE English; A-level English; language; IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component); TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: listening and writing 21, reading 22, speaking 23.
Examination and assessment is mainly by studio presentations and course work submissions; except for 1 exam at the end of the construction and management module.
