English (Victorian Literature)

Students study the relationship of Victorian writers to their Romantic predecessors; the impact of different sub-cultures in the Victorian period (print culture, scientific culture, theatrical culture, decadent culture); the relationship between the individual and society; and how the Victorians have been received and re-shaped in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree in English studies or a similar subject is required. All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, qualifications accepted include GCSE English; A-level English language; IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component); TOEFL iBT 88 or above with minimum scores in components as follows: listening and writing 21, reading 22, speaking 23.
