Policy Studies

This programme enables you to contribute to the policy process in government, non-governmental organisations and consultancy practice, and have a depth of knowledge in a range of policy areas.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a recognised UK Bachelor's degree, or international equivalent, in a social science discipline; qualifications in other subjects are assessed on their merits; candidate's application may be considered if they have previous education and experience, equivalent to a degree-level qualification, which includes suitable preliminary training.

Course modules

Modules include: Public policy and management: perspectives and issues; public policy and strategy; the international monetary fund and economic policy; decentralisation and local governance; privatisation and public-private partnerships; public policy and management: development assistance.

Assessment methods

Assessment by one three-hour unseen written examination and two assignments of 2,500 words each. The Dissertation (available as an option for MSc programmes only) is assessed by the submission of a written dissertation of not more than 10,000 words, excluding the bibliography and appendices.
