Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science

The course is carried out within 4 main research themes: multi-scale and multi-phase systems; self-sustaining biological systems; sustainable industrial systems; measurement science and instrumentation systems.

Entry requirements

An Upper 2nd UK Honours degree, or international equivalent, in a relevant science or engineering discipline or a 1st degree with an additional UK Master's degree or international equivalent; IELTS: 7.0 (with no sub score below 6); TOEFL paper based: 600 (with a minimum TWE of 5.0); TOEFL computer based: 250 (with a minimum TWE of 5.0); TOEFL internet based: 100 (with no sub score less than 25).

Assessment is by a research project.

Sponsorship information

Every year we secure funding to support PhD and EngD projects, in the form of industry and Research Council studentships; a limited number of bursaries are available for PhD students carrying out research in Process Integration and Design; these bursaries are funded by the Process Integration Research Consortium, a multi-national group of companies; bursary covers tuition fees and an annual living allowance of £9,000; bursaries are awarded on merit; UK/EU students may secure funding from a number of sources including the EPSRC; significant number of ESPRC awards are available from the School each year as well as various studentships attached to specific research projects. EngD students (usually UK) are funded by the EPSRC and also receive an additional bursary from the industrial sponsor; Overseas students with excellent first degrees equivalent to a UK First Class Honours can apply for the Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS); a number of these are awarded annually by Universities UK. Other external sources of funding for overseas students should be investigated via the British Council. For further information on funding please refer to our website.
