Chemistry

This twelve month chemistry MSc is designed primarily for international students, either to act as a preparation for PhD studies or for students wishing to broaden their research experience and knowledge of chemistry within the context of the English language.

Entry requirements

Applicants for MSc courses will require a minimum of a good 2(ii) honours degree or equivalent in chemistry, analytical chemistry or a chemistry related discipline. Students whose first degree has not been studied in English will normally have to reach a required standard in an International English language examination such as TOEFL (IBT) > 90 (with no sub-test less than 22) or IELTS > 6.5 (with no sub-test less than 5.5).

Course modules

Modules include: Spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance; organic chemistry; organometallic and inorganic chemistry; x-ray diffraction and solid state chemistry; polymer chemistry; project and research skills.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by a research project.
