Petroleum Exploration Geoscience
The programme has strong links with international oil companies and a proven track record for training in exploration and production geoscience to meet the needs of the oil industry.
An Honours degree in geology, geophysics, petroleum engineering or related discipline; work experience may also be taken into account; IELTS 6.5.
Modules include: Geophysical imaging and interpretation; petroleum economics and risk analysis; basin analysis and modelling; petroleum geochemistry; petrophysics/formation evaluation; play fairway and prospect evaluation; reservoir characteristics and modelling; 3D seismic interpretation and visualisation; wellsite and operations geology; management and communication skills.
NERC Scholarships: the coursehas been awarded 3 full NERC scholarships, which are available to UK students to fund the course fees, a living allowance and all fieldwork costs; ChevronTexaco Scholarship: this pays the full tuition and bench fees and also provides a living allowance equivalent to the NERC grant; ChevronTexaco award 2 fully-funded scholarships on Petroleum Geoscience courses in the UK; PESGB Scholarship: PESGB The Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain offers scholarships for places at Manchester; open to all UK/EU students, with preference to those with some oil industry experience seeking to undertake enhanced training: Scholarship (£5,000 up to £10,000);PTDF Nigeria: For international students there are other schemes such as PTDF Nigeria (full scholarship available).
