Advanced Control and Systems Engineering

The programme aims to provide an advanced education in control and systems engineering, emphasising modern theoretical developments and their practical application; give a sound fundamental understanding of the principles underlying the operation of control systems; enable students to apply modern control principles in various areas of industry.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree, or international equivalent, in an electrical and electronic engineering discipline; IELTS 6.5 (with no sub test less than 5.5); TOEFL 570 with 5.0 in the TWE (Test of Written English) or CBTOEFL 230 with 5.0 in the TWE.

Course modules

Modules include: Control and computer laboratory; linear optimal control; intelligent systems; non-linear controllers and systems; self-tuning and adaptive systems; manufacturing automation and data engineering; fault detection and diagnosis; and process control systems.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by written examinations, coursework, laboratory reports and a feasibility exercise.
