Digital Technologies, Communication and Education

This course aims to build in students the confidence and ability to identify and critically evaluate the use of digital technologies, whether in formal educational settings or the informal educational processes of society, and with specific reference to their own needs and practice.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree or equivalent approved academic qualification from a recognised institution; plus 2 satisfactory references; plus a personal statement (1 side of A4 paper) explaining why you wish to undertake this degree and how you think you will benefit from it; for non-native speakers of English: an IELTS profile of 7.0 or a TOEFL score as follows: 600 plus TWE 4.5 (paper-based test) or 250 plus essay rating 4.5 (computer-based test).

Course modules

Modules include: Communication in education; digital media and information literacy; digital media and information literacy; teaching and learning online; evaluation and design of educational course-ware; multimedia design and development.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes: Practical project work, i.e. creation of a web site or other educational software; a written literature review or other essay of approximately 3,500 words; criticism of existing software or web sites; creation of a teaching portfolio; writing reports on schools or other educational settings; collaborative group work.
