Secondary Education (Physics with Mathematics)
The course consists of a variety of learning experiences designed for those wishing to train as teachers; the majority of the course focuses upon practical training in teaching and learning related skills. Successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
Applicants require a strong academic record at A-level or equivalent; applicants must hold a qualification equivalent to a 2nd Class Honours degree or higher in a science subject with 50 percent content strongly related to physics; applicants must also hold qualifications in English language and mathematics at GCSE grade C or above (or hold equivalent qualifications); for those applicants whose 1st language is not English, IELTS 6.5 with a minimum band score of 6 in any 1 component is required; 577 in the TOEFL written test, 233 in the computerised TOEFL (including 5 in TWE), or 90 in the internet TOEFL with a minimum of 20 in each component; previous teaching experience is not required but prior experience of working with young people in schools and other settings would be advantageous; all applicants are strongly encouraged to spend some time (at least 2 days) in a secondary school or 6th form college prior to making an application.
