Planning

The programme aims to provide students with knowledge and understanding relating to the field of urban and environmental planning, and to deliver an appropriate range of skills for spatial planning; it meets the training guidelines set by the royal town planning institute (RTPI) in terms of core knowledge, competence/skills and specialised study; on graduation students can proceed to become chartered planners and members of the RTPI; on successful completion of the programme students have gained an understanding of the full range of professional skills relevant for planning practice; graduates also possess specialist skills relevant to a chosen specialism.

Entry requirements

A 1st or 2.1 Honours degree; professional qualifications and experience considered; candidates whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 600 (paper-based), TOEFL 250 (computer-based), or TOEFL 100 (internet-based with a minimum writing score of 25).

Course modules

Modules include: Planning powers and procedures; planning theory and ethics; land and development; analysis and monitoring of spatial policy; international perspectives on spatial planning; specialisms: urban regeneration; urban design; environmental assessment; planning for environmental change; making place/mediating space; European planning perspectives with fieldtrip.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by a dissertation.
