International Business and Commercial Law

The programme offers students the opportunity to develop an advanced understanding of the law governing international business and commerce; it covers fundamental legal aspects of international business, such as the law of corporations and corporate governance, the law of international trade transactions, international financial, securities and banking law, competition law and intellectual property; the programme aims at providing a solid basis in these fields as well as giving students the opportunity to explore topical issues, such as the implications of the recent financial crisis, corporate social and environmental responsibility, the role of brands in globalization, global economic governance, and the legal challenges of business operation and foreign investment in a development country context; in addition to exploring these issues in an academic context, the law school has set up a series of practitioner seminars, where senior practising lawyers of global business stature are invited to share their insights and experience.

Entry requirements

An Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in law, or overseas equivalent; English language requiremnts: IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 625/263.

Course modules

Modules include: International business and commercial law; corporations and international business law; intellectual property law; international commercial arbitration law; international economic law; international sale of goods; international carriage of goods by sea; regulating corporate social and environmental behaviour; principles and practice of corporate governance; international financial services regulation and the law and practice of international banking and finance.

Sponsorship information

UK and EU students may be eligible to apply for Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentships; graduates of the Manchester School of Law who are self-funding their postgraduate study are eligible for the School's Alumni Bursary Scheme, whereby students receive a discount of 20 per cent on their annual tuition fees when they register for the programme.
