Oncology

The course draws on the wide range of expertise and research carried out within the University and by its partners within the Manchester Cancer Research Centre, namely the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust; this comprises a unique grouping of basic and clinical scientists, many of international renown.

Entry requirements

Applicants must show achievement in years 1 to 4 of the undergraduate medical programme, with no failure at any examination in the past 2 academic years; other home and international medical graduates who have an undergraduate degree (2.1 or above) in a biomedical science and who can demonstrate relevant experience and commitment to oncology research; overseas students with an Honours degree or equivalent in a biomedical subject from an established university.For intercalating medical students (after Year 3 or 4), the minimum criterion for admission is satisfactory achievement in Years 1 to 3 or 4 of the undergraduate MBChB programme, with no failure at any examination in the past two academic years.
For University of St Andrews students, this includes the three year degree programme and the following two years spent in Manchester (Years 3 and 4 of the Manchester programme).Most international students must demonstrate English proficiency through a secure and approved testing system. We ask for English language proof from applicants from non-majority English speaking countries (a list of majority English speaking countries, as defined by the UK Home Office, can be found here ).
Specifically, we require a minimum of:
IELTS - minimum 6.5 overall with 6.0 in writing
TOEFL: 90 internet-based (with 22 in each component)

Course modules

Modules include: Research methods course unit; clinical masterclass; lecture series; tutorial; 2 research placements.

Sponsorship information

There are ten £2,500 MCRC bursaries available for MBChB (Medicine) intercalating students. These will be awarded to the ten best students selected from the interview process.
