Forensic Psychology and Mental Health

The MSc Forensic Psychology and Mental Health is one programme of study, with a single entry route. This MSc is for graduates wishing to pursue a career as a Chartered Psychologist and/or want to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practitioner forensic psychologist.

Entry requirements

The MSc Forensic Psychology and Mental Health is a programme of study for individuals wishing to pursue a career as a forensic psychologist.
Students must possess Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) Status with the British Psychological Society (BPS)*. Individuals must normally have a psychology degree with a minimum classification of a 2:1. It is desirable that applicants have relevant clinical/forensic experience (e.g. working with offenders/people at risk of offending, victims, observation of criminal courtroom proceedings). Students whose 1st language is not English need to provide evidence of a university-approved qualification in English language or achieve a level of no less than 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Modules include: Introduction to forensic mental health and offending behaviour, Introduction to Forensic Psychology, Research methods, Overview of mental health legislation, Personality disorder assessment and intervention, Clinical risk assessment, formulation and management, Psychology applied to investigate and legal processes, Psychosocial Interventions for individuals with complex mental health needs.

Assessment is by a dissertation.
