Medical Mycology

This programme is designed for graduates who wish to develop their skills as mycologists. The programme aims to result in a significant level of theoretical understanding and practical skills, which will be important for those wishing to follow a career in clinical sciences or academic and industrial research in the UK or overseas.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree (minimum 2.1), or overseas equivalent, is required for direct entry to the programme. Non-standard applicants for the programme will be considered on an individual basis, but may be required to enrol on the Diploma. This programme is subject to university approval. English language:Students whose 1st language is not English should have IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in writing. Paper-based TOFEL of 575 or computer-based TOEFL of 230 with 6.0 in the test of written English (TWE); internet-based TOEFL of 90 with a minimum of 22 in each component. Applicants for the PgDip/PgCert programmes whose first language is not English and who do not meet the above requirements can be considered on an individual basis.

Course modules

Modules include: Research methods and reporting scientific data; principles of medical microbiology; understanding infection; fungal disease; molecular diagnostics; medical mycology laboratory investigations; antifungals and antifungal therapy; global health and epidemiology.
