The MBA teaches students the theory of effective management practice and equips them with essential skills, confidence and competence to assist students when they venture into their chosen industry. Students learn to think laterally, challenge convention and offer knowledge based solutions to business issues. Students are able to think and operate differently to their colleagues which is essential in today's global business arena. The MBA is great for creating and building networks. Students study alongside ambitious graduates and have the opportunity to engage with business professionals from a range of organisations, industries and countries exchanging their experiences, insights and best practice. The programme has been designed to give students a thorough understanding of business and management processes. Students' assignments focus on real-life business and management situations and develop their strategic thinking and entrepreneurial skills.
1st or 2nd Class Honours degree of a British university or equivalent. Work experience is useful but is not a pre-requisite so long as applicants can demonstrate a clear passion for and interest in business and or enterprise. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of their English language capability at a level approved by the university. The level required for study on Master's degree courses is IELTS 6.5 or its equivalent.
The MBA programme comprises 9 specific modules of study (7 taught, and 2 independent research modules) through which students progress in order: critical issues in business: critical issues in business: what are the critical themes and pervasive issues in business today?; management and organisational behaviour: what are the organisational and management processes that I need to understand to be an effective leader?; strategic marketing: how can businesses gain competitive advantage in a dynamic and complex marketplace?; managing operations and the supply chain: what are the critical factors in operations, supply chain and project management?; competitive strategy and innovation: what do I need to know to be able to adaptably develop and interpret strategy?; financial decision making: what strategic knowledge do I need of accounting, quantitative methods and management information?; business research (consultancy) project: how can I gain skills in business planning, project and consultancy work?; international business negotiation: acquire a skill set that facilitates the articulation, advocation and negotiation of business transactions and decisions; entrepreneurship project: how do businesses identify new opportunities before their competitors and develop new products?
The programme is highly enterprise and business focused with an emphasis on real life business situations and problems. As such it has a mixture of assessment involving practical work, presentations, essays, reports and case studies and examinations.
