Leadership in Health and Social Care

The course is rooted in the needs of team and service managers and leaders for leadership and management development, it enables people in health, social and voluntary services and their organisations to meet the needs of the different communities they serve. The programme is based on the 9 themes of the NHS Executives Embodying Leadership (2000), and incorporates core attributes of the Leadership Qualities Framework (2002) and the Knowledge and Skills Framework (2003); its blended learning approach uses events, which include tutor led workshops, group tutorials, action learning sets and performance coaching which provide stimulation and support.

Entry requirements

A good 1st degree; applicants who do not hold a 1st degree but have a professional qualification would be considered under our APL admissions policy.

Course modules

Core modules: innovation and creativity; leadership (the people challenge); turning visions into practice.

Assessment methods

All modules require participants to relate concepts and frameworks directly to their own work, exploring and applying concepts of management and leadership to their services; work-based projects are based on current work; work set contributes to the goals which students have set.
