English (Contemporary Literature)

The course covers predominantly post 1900 literature and visual media in English from diverse sources including the UK, Ireland, USA, the Indian subcontinent, Australia and New Zealand. Students have the chance to study a range of contemporary texts including novels, films, poetry and short stories in the context of contemporary literary theory.

Entry requirements

Minimum upper 2nd Class Honours degree in an appropriate subject; exceptionally other candidates are considered; applicants whose 1st language is not English may be required to demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.

Course modules

Critical theory; contemporary British writing; brave new worlds; independent study in the arts; post colonial literature or gender and writing; research project.
