Areas of research include: American cinema and television; Asian cinema; branding; cult television; early cinema; film and television consumption: reception, audience studies, and star discourses; film and television documentary; film and television industries: production, marketing, distribution and exhibition; film and television theory and critics; film histories: early cinema, film historiography; film production: sound, film technicians and production contexts; film sound; film/television and civil rights/the 60s; history, memory and the media; political economy of film and television; popular cinema, national and transnational cinemas, and the blockbuster; relationship of film/television to other media including issues of convergence, adaptation, and cultural value; Shakespeare and cinema/television; textual analysis and representation; the action film and masculinity; the blockbuster.
