Philosophy

The department offers supervision in a wide range of subject areas. There is a concentration of staff with research interests in metaphysics; aesthetics and philosophy of language; in metaphysics there is particular strength in the topics of: identity: dispositions, essentialism, laws of nature and causation; in mind: theory-theory/simulation debate, imagination, mental causation, personal identity and consciousness and self-consciousness; in aesthetics: philosophy of fiction; philosophy of film; philosophy of music; in philosophy of language: indexicals; theory of reference and speech acts; other areas of philosophy in which expert supervision can be offered are: philosophy of science; philosophy of mind; philosophical logic; philosophy of law; political philosophy.

Entry requirements

MA with merit (or international equivalent) in philosophy or a related subject. IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.0 in any element).
