The department offers supervision in a wide range of subject areas; there is a concentration of staff with research interests in metaphysics; aesthetics and philosophy of language; in metaphysics there is particular strength in the topics of: identity: dispositions, essentialism, laws of nature and causation; in mind: theory-theory/simulation debate, imagination, mental causation, personal identity and consciousness and self-consciousness; in aesthetics: philosophy of fiction; philosophy of film; philosophy of music; in philosophy of language: indexicals; theory of reference and speech acts; other areas of philosophy in which expert supervision can be offered are: philosophy of science; philosophy of mind; philosophical logic; philosophy of law; political philosophy.

Entry requirements

Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent; other candidates may be considered; evidence of English language proficiency e.g. IELTS qualification, for those whose 1st language is not English.
