The MA consists of a training course in research methodology (library, archival, bibliographical and presentation skills) and a course of directed study under the supervision of a member of staff�s experienced research team leading to a 30000-word dissertation; all postgraduate students undertake the generic research training modules offered by the Graduate School.
Candidates applying to join MPhil or other research Masters programmes (eg MRes, MA/MSc (by research)) would normally be expected to hold an Honours degree at 2.2 level or above (or international equivalent) in an appropriate subject; candidates are generally required to submit a research proposal with their applications; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) [Academic version] 6.0 with no less than 5 in any one element; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) :Paper version: 550 with a minimum of 4.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE); Internet-based version: 79 with no less than 17 in any one element.
