Hispanic and Latin American Studies
Students agree their research topic with a main supervisor before they start; students attend all departmental research seminars and special lectures and deliver at least 1 paper of their own each year, usually at the annual Postgraduate Forum; if there are areas of research methodology which need to be addressed, students are invited to attend relevant courses offered by the Graduate School or their supervisor may advise them.
Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (58% grade point average for UK degrees); applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element) or TOEFL 573 paper-based/230 computer-based (with 4.5 in TWE) or TOEFL IBT 87 (no less than 21 in any element).
Thesis of 80000-100000 words, in English, Spanish or Portuguese, on a topic which makes a significant contribution to the sum of knowledge on the Hispanic or Lusophone worlds.
