Portuguese and Lusophone Studies

Students agree their research topic with a main supervisor before they start. They attend all departmental research seminars and special lectures and deliver at least 1 paper of their own each year, usually at the annual Postgraduate Forum. If there are areas of research methodology which need to be addressed, they are invited to attend relevant courses offered by the Graduate School, or their supervisor advises them.

Entry requirements

2.1 (or international equivalent) in an arts, humanities or social science subject. For PhD-level study, applicants should hold, or be working towards, a Master's degree in a relevant subject. IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in any element).

Assessment methods

Thesis of 80000-100000 words, in English, Spanish or Portuguese, on a topic which makes a significant contribution to the sum of knowledge on the Hispanic or Lusophone worlds.
