Digital Technologies for Language Teaching

This programme brings together theories and practice of language acquisition, educational technology and foreign language teaching. The course provides students with a solid grounding in the pedagogical and practical aspects of new learning technologies with a specific focus on language learning and teaching. Although the MA is a distance learning programme it is designed to offer students regular support and to encourage the creation of a learning community of students and tutors sharing common interests, knowledge and experiences.

Entry requirements

2.1 (or international equivalent). Additionally, candidates would normally have (qualified teacher status) QTS status or a minimum of 1 year approved teaching experience (or equivalent). Other candidates may be considered at the discretion of the department. English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any element).

Course modules

Modules: introduction to digital technologies (core); advanced language teaching: technology-enhanced creative writing in a foreign language; integrating technology in course design and assessment; game based learning; research methods; second language acquisition and teaching; teaching translation and technology.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on dissertation.
