University of Nottingham
The course explores the ways in which language and literary studies can be integrated. It draws on different contemporary approaches to language and discourse from the fields of modern linguistics, cognitive science and related fields. It covers a diverse range of poetry, prose and drama, and also offers contrastive study of non-literary discourse including spoken language. Optional modules allow students to develop interests in particular areas of literature, as well as in cognitive poetics, corpus analysis, the teaching of language and literature, language and culture, and world Englishes. Students complete the programme with a supervised dissertation.
