Sustainable Building Technology
This course is specifically tailored towards graduates in building services, architectural environmental engineering, architecture and other related disciplines; it is carefully structured to accommodate the interests and skills of those who are related to building design and technology and building energy and environmental performance; there is emphasis on successful integration of renewable and sustainable energy technologies into buildings, which requires an understanding of both design and technology and hence the close co-operation of architecture and engineering; the course is designed to allow discussion and exchange of information between different disciplines and encourages novel and imaginative solutions to the challenge of producing environmentally friendly buildings.
2.1 Honours degree, or international equivalent; where English is not 1st language IELTS: 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any element), or TOEFL IBT: 79 with a minimum of 17 in writing and listening, 18 in reading and 20 in speaking.
Core modules: Modelling environmental performance; renewable energy technology 1 and 2; CFD for ventilation design; sustainable research project; research methodologies; optional modules: energy efficient systems; air conditioning technologies; advanced topics of heat transfer; energy conversion and utilisation; cooling technologies and applications; modelling and CFD; materials and building physics; building design in different climates; solar architecture in different regions.
