Digital Architecture and Tectonics

This course focuses on the role and application of materials and technology in the creation of contemporary architecture. The purpose of the course is to ensure that the most appropriate technologies are integrated into comprehensive design thinking. As such, it provides insight into recent technological developments in the fields of structures, environmental control, energy optimisation, materials, digital design, digital fabrication and ultra modern methods of construction. An innovative feature of this course is its interdisciplinary nature where architects, engineers and individuals from associated disciplines work together in the deign studio.

Entry requirements

2.1 (or international equivalent) in architecture or similar subject; must include modules in architectural design accounting for 25-50 per cent of credits. English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element).

Course modules

Modules include: digital architecture; digital architecture and digital fabrication; architectural research methods; space enclosure; facade technology; optional modules include: environmental design; advanced tall buildings.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on a dissertation.
