Clinical Microbiology

This course provides training in theoretical and practical aspects of medical microbiology and infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on laboratory diagnosis, patient management and infection control. Students gain basic and advanced knowledge of important viral, bacterial and parasitic infections and learn how these infections are diagnosed and treated by clinicians.

Entry requirements

2.1 (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject; applicants with a 2.2 (or international equivalent) may be considered on an individual basis; English language requirements: IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.0 in any element).

Course modules

Modules include: introduction to medical microbiology; infection control and public health; viral pathogenesis and infections; prevention and treatment of infection; advanced clinical microbiology; clinical microbiology research methods; diagnostic microbiology and laboratory methods.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on a research project.
