Work and Organisational Psychology

This course provides an opportunity for postgraduate education for students from a number of backgrounds interested in this area who do not have the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and who may not have a psychology background. The course has been designed to provide students with knowledge of the main areas of occupational psychology, to provide good research skills, to cover the relevant social psychological and organisational issues and to introduce the skills required in practice.

Entry requirements

2.1 (or international equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline such as psychology, behavioural science, ergonomics, human factors or social science. Mature applicants without standard entry requirements but with substantial and relevant experience may be considered for the PGDip. English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element).

Course modules

Semester 1 core modules: introduction in research methods; employee relations and motivation; organisations, stress and health; workplace counselling and career development; strategic and human resource management. Semester 2 core modules: consultancy skills workshop; occupational selection and assessment; professional issues in research and practice. Plus 2 from: organisational development and change; managing diversity and promoting inclusion at work; training in organisations; quantitative methods 2. Full year core modules: quantitative methods 1; qualitative research methods; applied research project.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include:e examinations, essays, dissertations and field-based project work.
