Crop Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship
This course provides an opportunity for science graduates from the UK and overseas to learn about the latest developments in crop biotechnology and gain the business skills and training needed to pursue careers in a crop biotechnology business environment; such people may work in management within existing companies, particularly at the technical-business interface or may take the exciting opportunity to set up their own business venture.
Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in biology, biotechnology, crop science or related subject, or relevant work experience; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element) or TOEFL paper based 573 with 4.5 in TWE or TOEFL computer based 230 with 4.5 in TWE or TOEFL IBT:87 with no less than 21 in listening, 22 in reading, 23 in speaking and 21 in writing.
Modules include: plant genetic manipulation: practical techniques; fundamental and applied aspects of plant genetic manipulation; plant biotechnology; project management; creative problem solving; finance and accounting; marketing for entrepreneurs; innovation management; genetic improvement of crop plants; sex, flowers and biotechnology; basic introduction to omic technologies; technology entrepreneurship; research project; crop biotechnology technology transfer project.
Assessment is based on a research project.
University studentship and some European bursaries may be available.
