Applied Biopharmaceutical Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship (ABBE)

The course provides students with the scientific research skills and the basic business knowledge needed to convert scientific discoveries into inventions and commercial products; students learn how to translate these into a business plan for start-up technologies or innovative processes within biotechnology industries; they acquire a combination of essential research and business practical skills in finance, marketing and management which equips them for career opportunities in the global biotechnology market.

Entry requirements

BSc or BA 1st degree in a relevant subject area, at least 2.2 Honours level or equivalent; language requirements apply for international students; IELTS: 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element); TOEFL IBT: 87 (no less than 21 in listening, 22 in reading, 23 in speaking and 21 in writing).

Course modules

Typical modules: Industrial and biomedical macromolecules; physical chemistry of molecules; antibody biotechnology; polysaccharide and drug delivery biotechnology; project management; creative problem solving; finance and accounting; marketing for entrepreneurs; innovation management.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on the completion of a research project.
