The course is designed to prepare students for highly skilled programming careers in industry and/or research; it aims to bring students to the forefront of research in these areas, equipping them to take leading roles in software development where the demands of reliability and efficiency are particularly important.
2.2 (lower 2nd Class Honours degree or international equivalent) including: computer science, mathematics, science or engineering disciplines. Other requirements: Evidence of programming experience (equivalent to the completion of an individual 20-credit Bachelor's level computing-science project) will be required. IELTS: 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any element) TOEFL IBT: 79 (with no less than 17 in writing and listening, 18 in reading and 20 in speaking).
Semester 1: Compulsory modules: advanced data structures; programming. Optional modules: advanced computer communications; application programming; autonomous robotic systems; computability; computer graphics; computer vision (level 4); connected computing at scale; decision support methodologies; design ethnography; designing intelligent agents; foundations of programming mini-project; fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic systems games; introduction to human computer interaction; knowledge representation and reasoning; machine learning; mathematical foundations of programming; mobile device programming; operations research and modelling ; selected topics in artificial intelligence; simulation for decision support; software engineering; software project management; ubiquitous computing.
Assessment is based on an individual project.
