Applicants for PhD programmes are generally required to hold an Honours degree at 2.1 level or above (or international equivalent) in an appropriate subject; candidates are generally required to submit a research proposal with their applications; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) [Academic version] 6.0 with no less than 5 in any one element; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) :Paper version: 550 with a minimum of 4.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE); Internet-based version: 79 with no less than 17 in any one element.
Research involves 7 groups: nanoscience; semiconductors; granular dynamics; magnetic levitation; nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS); nuclear magnetic resonance; ulltra-low temperature physics.
