Economic Development and Policy Analysis
The common core modules provide a solid grounding in economic analysis, rather than theory, and specialised modules address current theories, issues and evidence in economic policy as applied to developing countries; development policy analysis is a required module; the specific objective is to equip students with knowledge of the techniques for economic policy analysis in developing countries and the ability to apply them; the course is designed for those who wish to work as economists in, or on matters relating to, developing countries; the content of the course is influenced by the research and applied policy experience of staff associated with CREDIT.
Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in economics; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS with 7.0 (no less than 6.0 in any element), or TOEFL paper based with 600 with 4.5 in TWE, or TOEFL computer based with 250 with 4.5 in TWE, or TOEFL IBT with 100 (no less than 21 in any element).
Microeconomic analysis; macroeconomic analysis;economic policy analysis; economic data analysis;advanced macroeconomic theory; international macroeconomics;behavioural economic theory; experimental methods in economics; labour economics;income distribution and poverty;trade analysis and policy;global environmental issues;applied money and finance;financial economics; behavioural finance; development policy analysis; development microeconomics; options and futures markets; decision-making under risk and uncertainty.
Modules on this course are mainly assessed by examinations at the end of the semester in which the module is taught. Some modules are also assessed on the basis of coursework. Students also complete a dissertation.
