Economics of Monetary and Financial Policy

This course equips students with a robust knowledge of the techniques used to analyse financial and monetary issues and the ability to apply them; it allows students to study core courses in micro and macroeconomics as a foundation for 2 compulsory monetary and financial modules which are central to the course; in addition, there is a range of options including finance, financial econometrics, behavioural finance, advanced macroeconomics and international macroeconomics; students are required to complete 120 credits worth of core and optional modules before undertaking a supervised dissertation on a topic of their choice.

Entry requirements

2.1 (or international equivalent) in economics. English language requirements: IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.0 in any element).

Modules include: microeconomic analysis; macroeconomic analysis; economic policy analysis; economic data analysis; labour economics; financial economics; economic growth; income distribution and poverty; trade analysis and policy; global environmental issues; development policy and analysis; development microeconomics; options and futures markets; advanced macroeconomic theory; international macroeconomics; economic applications of game theory; behavioural economic theory; experimental methods in economics; public economic theory; behavioural finance.

Assessment methods

Modules on this course are mainly assessed by examinations at the end of the semester in which the module is taught. Some modules are also assessed on the basis of coursework.
