Mentoring and Coaching Beginning Teachers

This course has been developed to meet the continuing professional development needs of school and college teachers who fulfil roles as the mentors to initial teacher education (ITE) students and early career (newly qualified) teachers (NQTs). Across the diversity of routes into teaching, this programme addresses the specific development needs of staff who work with beginning teachers in primary or secondary schools.

Entry requirements

2.2 (or international equivalent); applicants must be working as a mentor to beginning teachers or have negotiated access to a mentor/mentee arrangement in a school. IELTS: 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element).

Course modules

Core modules: mentoring beginning teachers; practice-based inquiry.

Assessment methods

Each module is assessed by a written assignment of 6,000 words (or equivalent). Each assignment is graded numerically.
