Politics and Contemporary History (Research Track)

This course aims to give students the methodological tools necessary to study politics at advanced level; it has 3 elements:research training, subject-specific training, and generic skills training; the ESRC DTC training programme modules and the designing political enquiry module aim to equip students with essential research methods skills in politics, while the research skills for historians allow students to acquire the necessary research skills in history; the subject-specific core module the making of political science) aims to review and assess the major approaches to the study of politics including rational choice theory, institutionalism, neo-Marixism and normative theory; in the subject-specific core module on theory and evidence in history and the social sciences, the key approaches in history are reviewed.

Entry requirements

Candidates are normally expected to have at least a good 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent; IELTS:6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 for each element); TOEFL IBT:88 with no less than 19 in any element.
