Secondary Education (Modern Languages: French with Italian)
The course provides students with: the ability to draw on your own experiences of language learning in a positive and reflective manner; the ability to observe other practitioners in the classroom and to understand their decision making; a range of teaching approaches and styles which have been shown to be effective; practical advice on the preparation, conduct and evaluation of language lessons; ways of understanding how adolescents learn a foreign language and how to monitor their progress; ways of using and adapting a range of foreign language teaching materials; the course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Relevant degree and GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent, in English language and mathematics; Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced disclosure.
Topics include: Specialist studies in the principal subject area; core programme of activities related to cross-curricular whole-school topics such as: teaching and assessing the National Curriculum; the teacher�s pastoral role; inclusion; option modules include: additional learning needs; citizenship; drama; education in developing countries; workshops to support information and communication technology.
