Most of our Master’s courses and research programmes are available both full and part-time to provide flexible delivery to meet the demands of busy lifestyles.

Student satisfaction

We value our reputation for teaching and support. In the last Higher Education Academy Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, an average of 90 per cent of respondents said that their course at the University of Portsmouth had met or exceeded expectations. An average of 91 per cent of respondents reported that the learning resources on their course had met or exceeded expectations and an average of 78 per cent believed their Master’s course had improved their employment prospects.

Self-funding applicants for full or part-time postgraduate taught or research degrees, who have obtained a University of Portsmouth degree, qualify for a 20 per cent Alumni Scholarship. Conditions apply.

Postgraduate research opportunities
Research degree programmes provide opportunities to undertake extensive and original research into a specific chosen field. We have a thriving research community of more than 800 research students across five faculties who are supported by over 500 highly trained research supervisors.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework in 2014, over 60 per cent of research submitted by the University was rated as world leading and internationally excellent. Our Graduate School provides excellent support and guidance for the university-wide community of research students. Funding for research degrees

Our support services provide advice and guidance to all students for the duration of their time at University. They include the Academic Skills Unit (ASK), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Additional Support and Disability Advice Centre (ASDAC) and our Counselling and Chaplaincy service.
Our active Students' Union and Sport and Recreation Department offer membership to sports societies and interest clubs, as well as three sports centres, housing two sports halls, squash courts, two dance/martial arts studios, a synthetic turf pitch, netball courts and grass pitches for football, rugby and lacrosse. We have a 100-station gym with a CV room, resistance zone and free weights room.
Our International Office takes great care to help you settle into your new way of life within the University and the local community. International Office staff travel extensively overseas and would be delighted to meet you and answer your questions. Once you arrive in Portsmouth, they provide extensive support to make your time here as stress free and enjoyable as possible, enabling you to focus on your studies.

Portsmouth is a lively and cosmopolitan city on the south coast of England and it enjoys some of the best weather in the UK. It is an interesting and attractive place where the historic sits comfortably with the modern. The city is compact - everything you could possibly need is within easy reach. Just 90 minutes by direct train from the centre of London, Portsmouth is also within easy reach of Heathrow, Gatwick and Southampton airports. As a busy ferry port, it is a gateway to the continent with regular sailings to France and Spain.
