History of Art and Architecture

Research areas include: Western art and architecture and theories of art and architecture from the Renaissance through to the present day. Expertise is available in the following areas: Italian renaissance architecture and architectural theory; architecture in Venice and the Veneto; church planning in Italy in the 15 and 16th centuries; 16th- and 17th century Italian art; artistic patronage in Rome and Italy in the 16th century; the circle of Annibale Carracci; Italian renaissance and baroque drawing; David and French art in the period of the French revolution; 17th-Century French Classicism and Goya; Late 19th and 20th century British art with a particular interest in the reception of modern European art in the 1880s (impressionism); the 1910s (post-impressionism) and the 1930s (surrealism); The work and writings of Walter Sickert; modern and contemporary art; war art and public monuments; feminism in the visual arts; museums.

Entry requirements

An Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent.
