The course aims to provide a foundation in applied linguistics for language professionals. Through the wide range of option modules available, you are able to select areas of study to suit your own academic and professional interests. You will acquire a good knowledge of current developments in the field of applied linguistics, its relation to other disciplines, and its relevance to professional practice. You will also gain expertise in undertaking and evaluating applied linguistic research.
A minimum overall score of IELTS 6.5 with no score below 6.0 orequivalent. A relevant degree or equivalent and some experience in language teaching (English or other languages), or experience in another relevant professional field normally required.
Modules include: Sociolinguistics; second language learning principles; English phonology; discourse analysis for language teachers; corpus-based approaches to language description.
