This course provides intensive training for those intending to pursue doctoral studies in applied linguistics, and represents the first year of a four-year course leading to a PhD. This pathway involves substantial research training modules in applied linguistics, and in social science generally. The courseprovides a wide range of transferable skills relevant to language research, communication skills and project management.
A minimum overall score of IELTS 6.5 with no score below 6.0 orequivalent. An upper 2nd Class degree in a relevant or equivalent discipline required.
Modules include: Issues in linguistic research; essentials of research methods; second language learning principles; discourse analysis for language teachers; corpus-based approaches to language description.
Assessment is by a 20,000 word dissertation.
