Department and staff research specialities include: British and US television drama and documentary; contemporary television; popular and youth television and new media. Research projects include: spaces of television; production, site and style.

Entry requirements

Applicants should be appropriately qualified to undertake the study of their chosen specialist topic. Our normal requirement is 2.1 at BA level. We welcome applications from suitably experienced arts and industry professionals.

Assessment methods

PhDs in the department can take 2 forms: a written thesis; or a practice-led project combined with a written thesis.

Sponsorship information

The University of Reading is part of the SWW Consortium. PhD applicants to the Department of Film, Theatre and Television are therefore able to apply via this route for Arts and Humanities Research Council funding.
