Military History and Strategic Studies
This course marries the approaches of several distinct yet overlapping disciplines to the same theme: war, in all its dimensions, from the actual historical events to their impacts on all affected (from soldiers to civilians), to the conduct of war, the strategies, the contemporary sources and the later reception and even myths they gave rise to.
Students should have a 2.1 degree or above (or equivalent from a university outside the UK).
Themes and issues in military history and strategic studies; dissertation. Selective optional modules: any combination to a total of 60 credits from those available any year but which may include: the origins and causes of war; the crusades; the hundred years war; early modern warfare ; the 2 world wars: strategies of total war; cold war culture; the practice of strategy in history; strategic theory; war, memory and the politics of national identity; skills and resources in military history and strategic studies.
