Secondary Education (Modern Foreign Languages: German)
The programme fully reflects both the needs of language teachers in today's secondary schools and current thinking about modern languages; it sees the teaching and learning of a foreign language as closely related to the contemporary civilisation of the country and to the communication needs of the learner; course aims to give students a theoretical framework for language teaching, with opportunities to observe skilled and experienced practitioners in the languages classroom, and to offer practical advice on the preparation, conduct and evaluation of language lessons; trainees have the opportunity to enhance their subject knowledge through a range of self-study materials and tutor-led sessions and are encouraged to teach a secondary subsidiary language during their school placement where possible.
Good Honours degree in 1 of the modern foreign languages; native speakers need to have an element of language study in their degree; parts of the interview for admission are conducted in the applicant's foreign language; GCSE minimum grade C or equivalent in mathematics, English language and science; interview.
