Secondary Education (Physical Education)
The programme provides preparation for teaching through its focus on establishing physical education leadership skills; central to the philosophy is a strong belief in the benefits of physical education for all, and the potential of every child to succeed; each student is given an individual programme of learning of physical education, and many sessions are devoted to linking subject knowledge to principles of teaching in schools; the programme is conducted through a series of interactive lectures, seminars and practical workshops; the emphasis is on taking part in an intellectually challenging and highly professional course leading to reflective and critical practitioners who are able to contribute effectively to high standards of learning; assignments, 2 of which are at Master's level, are designed to assist trainees to plan their teaching effectively and imaginatively and to evaluate their skills; students can put the Masters' credits awarded on the PGCE towards a Master's degree.
Honours degree in a physical education/sports leadership discipline; GCSE minimum grade C or equivalent in mathematics, English language and science; interview.
