Primary Education (Early Years, 3-7 years)
This programme prepares trainees for teaching posts in infant, reception and Foundation Stage classes within primary, 1st and infant schools or nursery settings and childcare establishments; a wide range of subjects reflect the full Primary National Curriculum, such as mathematics and English and areas of learning for the Foundation Stage, such as knowledge and understanding of the world; these introduce students to ways in which children learn and progress, how individual differences can be addressed, the ways in which children's work can be assessed and the process of interaction within teaching and learning groups; students have taught sessions in English; mathematics; science; information communication technology; humanities (including religious education); music; art; drama; physical education; and technology; leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
Degree in an appropriate subject; GCSE minimum grade C or equivalent in mathematics, English language & science; candidates should be able to show at interview that they have a wide range of life experiences, including work in school with young children.
